Sundre Petroleum Operator’s Group
World Café Event
SPOG held a “World Café” event. What’s that you ask?!? A World Café is when a group of people are invited to discuss issues in a café style setting. Each group gives input on a topic, their statements are recorded and compiled and then an action plan is implemented on how to best move forward keeping in mind what has been said.
On September 5th, 2007, 120 people including community, industry and government representatives were invited to discuss the future of SPOG and the Community in which SPOG operates. SPOG was the first Synergy Group in the province.
15 Years ago it started in order to address community concerns with the development of the Shell Caroline Complex. Since then much of the landscape has changed. 15 years ago the rural landscape consisted mostly of farmers and ranchers. Now the pendulum has changed as we see more acreages popping up around the country side.
To be effective SPOG needed to determine what the needs of the community are now. Most of the issues dealing with the oil and gas industry have been answered, but now the area is dealing with new things such as the changing demographics of our country side.
Facilitators, Kerry Brown of Moving Forward Inc. and Laurie and Rob Benn of Positive Culture helped guide the day’s events. Other trained facilitators such as Krista Waters kept things on track. Laurie and Rob are unique artists and throughout the day they drew a mural of ideas and concepts as they came forward. A copy of that Mural was presented to Premier Stelmach, MLA Ty Lund and MP Myron Thompson at the 2007 Neighbour’s Day.
These are the categories and areas of CHANGE and DEVELOPMENT that were determined from the World Café for SPOG:
